HORSEWORLD

HorseWorld rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes horses, as well as working with numerous local charities. SRA’s winning scheme breathed new life into their current facilities and provided the charity with a new visitor centre. The masterplan also gave room for a residential development.

HorseWorld is a 167-acre working farm outside Bristol. Its existing visitor centre was disconnected from the farm, tainting the visitor experience. Any new scheme needed to remain sensitive to its Green Belt setting.

In an exciting new masterplan, SRA introduced a residential concept using the existing visitor centre site as well as some historic farm buildings. This would fund the brand new visitor centre, along with extra facilities for equine-rehoming. There was also a new arena, education centre, café, play barn, adventure area and gift shop, all distributed among the paddocks. Horse rehabilitation would become the heart of the visitor experience.

Working within the tight planning requirements, we thoughtfully balanced the needs of the local ecology and environmental drainage considerations. The resulting design created a vibrant new community, seamlessly integrated into the surrounding historically significant Green Belt.
