Silverthorne Lane, Bristol
We have been given a fantastic opportunity to transform a former key industrial site in the heart of Bristol into a vibrant new community. This is a joint venture between a number of stakeholders and Stubbs Rich, all of whom are excited by this complex and challenging brief.
The project includes working with - and indeed respecting - the existing fabric and historic content of the Grade 2* listed St Vincent’s Works and Victorian Warehouse. The contrast of old and new buildings will deliver a superb visual impact to the site, at the centre of which will sit an active public square with live/work units and a cafe bar. A new residential tower acts as a beacon for the development and a marker as the site is approached from Temple Quay
Visually the site is further enhanced by the innovative use of garden squares as elevated decks over grade parking across the site - innovative because this arrangement provides a logical solution to the significant flooding issues and maintains flood storage on site. The use of green space here provides a particularly attractive neighbourhood for residents and the communal garden squares enjoy a south facing position, overlooking the Feeder Canal.
The benefits of the canalside location has been maximised in the organisation of the residential blocks. By placing them perpendicular to the canal, an increased quantum of accommodation can be provided with water frontage and long distant views, parallel to the tree lined canal.
