The initial design, undertaken by another practice, was too expensive to make the project viable. We identified ways to reduce the cost by 40% without reducing the size. In making these changes, we improved the usefulness of the building by making it focused on the needs of the users.

Stubbs Rich were appointed to carry out a design for 60,000sqft of multi use ‘workspace’ units, ranging in size from 1,400 - 28,750sqft. The construction cost was just £58/sqft.

The obvious design quality achieved in this store has been recognized by IKEA, who are now using it as an international benchmark. This has been achieved by a number of factors and we were able to draw on our previous experience of designing economical buildings for IKEA.
